Camp Skincare

Welcome to camp, Knockouts!

You have arrived at camp, just to notice... no sink, no shower, just Mother Nature. How the heck are you supposed to wash your face?! Do not fear, Knockouts, your Esty is here to share some tips to make your camping skincare routine a breeze.

Tip 1: Travel Sizes.

Travel sizes are ideal for camping! No need to carry all your full sized products around. Most products are available in sample/ travel sizes. And if your 'must have' product does not come in a smaller size, there are tons of travel containers available at your local convenience store.

Tip 2: Water Jugs.

Water may be scarce depending on where you camp. Bring an extra jug of water for your skincare routine.

Tip 3: Cotton 4x4. Who wants to carry around a used, wet sponge or washcloth? No one! These esthetic wipes are 100% cotton, strong and durable. They are perfect for removing products and my favorite for removing eye makeup because of their  softness.

Tip 4: Hand Sanitizer. Always, no matter what, wash your hands before you wash your face. In a perfect world you’d wash your hands with soap and water, then sanitize.

Tip 5: Keep it simple. Give your skin a break from the actives and just focus on the basics. We want to cleanse, treat, balance and protect with a good cleanser, some antioxidants, a moisturizer, and Sunscreen!

Avoid the following:

Makeup wipes. They just smear your makeup and natural oils around, does not even count as a first cleanse. Wipes also contain irritating ingredients and will leave a film on your skin. Ew.

Picking/ popping pimples. NEVER touch your face with your fingernails, especially in an outdoor environment.

Skipping your skincare regimen. You must wash off the debris of the day off for your skin to regenerate and heal while you sleep. A day of camping usually entails sweating, debris and (hopefully) layers of sunscreen. All this must be washed off the skin for your skin to function properly.

My Camping Regimen

  1. Cleanse. With clean, dry hands I dispense a quarter size amount of the Mega- Purifying Cleanser to face and neck. This cleanser is GlyMed Plus’ number one cream cleanser and favorite makeup remover. Working in circular, upward motions for a minute or so, allowing makeup and debris to dissolve. With a wet, cotton 4x4 I remove the product from face and neck. For my second cleanse I dispense  a quarter size amount of the Gentle Facial Wash in palms and add a tad of water. This wash has 10% glycolic acid, a fantastic. gentle alternative to salicylic acid. Apply the cleanser to face and neck, avoiding the eye area and cleanse with circular upward motions for a 1-2 minutes. Wipe clean with a wet 4x4. To ensure no product is left on the skin, I take a 3rd wet 4x4 and wipe face well.
  2. Treat. Apply 2 pumps of Living Cell Clarifier and press into skin. This is the "all in one" serum. It's loaded with tyrosinase inhibitors that prevent melanin, production antioxidants which prevent free radical damage,  lightening and brightening ingredients.
  3. Balance. I spritz 6+ pumps of the Skin Recovery Mist on my face and neck. Contains hydrating and healing algae, hyaluronic acid and vitamin B. Light weight mist leaves skin refreshed and luminous. Then apply Eye Calm Cream.
  4. Protect. And of course the last step is SPF. I love the Photo Age Protection Gel SPF 30+. At night a light moisturizer is best instead of heavy cream. In the South, it gets humid, so you don't want anything too occlusive. The Oxygen Treatment Cream is my favorite for camping because bacteria cannot thrive in the presence of oxygen. So, while you enjoy the fresh air your skin can too.
